Jacquelyn Dee Mosley has been named associate dean, effective June 1, in U of A's Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences, Dean Jeff Edwards has announced.

Mosley, assistant dean for the college since 2022, is also a human development and family sciences professor in the college's School of Human Environmental Sciences. Mosley is moving into the position currently held by Lona Robertson, who is retiring this summer after serving as associate dean since 2011, interim dean from 2016-18 and as a faculty member since 2006.

Her focus will be providing leadership in academic operations, focusing on curriculum management, student recruitment and student success. Her position supports faculty, enhances student experiences and serves as the academic integrity monitor for the college while also providing leadership for key programs, including the Waldrip Student Center.

She will collaborate with university leadership to align academic operations with institutional policies and improve student success and retention.

"Dr. Mosley brings energy and a commitment to student success to the associate dean role," Edwards said. "I am excited that we are able to retain her as part of the Bumpers College leadership team. Our student services team is second to none, and I know they will continue to excel with Dr. Mosley at the helm."

"I was interested in this position because I saw the opportunity to be a support role for students, faculty and staff," Mosley said. "My plan for this first year is to listen and learn about how I can be that support system."

The Bumpers College student success team is made up of Director of Advising and Retention Specialist Lucas Simmons, Director of Student Records Jody Davis and academic advisers Melinda Dunlap, Cathy Hamilton and Abbie Tanner, as well as Alana Coffee, the administrative specialist. The team also includes Janet Collins, director of career initiatives, and Vicky Watkins, director of curriculum management and international programs.

Mosley will also supervise the college's coordinator of undergraduate student recruiting and work closely with Becky Alverson regarding scholarships and Isabel Whitehead-Adams with the honors program.

The groups will regularly meet and visit with students regarding mentoring, advising, changing majors, career services, scholarships and more.

"We have an amazing student success team in the college, and I want to continue building on that momentum to ensure Bumpers College is helping to advance the land-grant mission," Mosley said.

For the past five years, Mosley has been involved with the Bumpers College Arkansas Lighthouse Summer Enrichment Academy (ALSEA), which aims to support and expand knowledge of and experience with agricultural sciences in education and extension functions for K-12 students, primarily from rural and first-gen backgrounds. ALSEA is funded by USDA-NIFA, under Mosley, and will be held on campus June 15-18.

In 2022, Mosley became the first U of A faculty member to earn a national teaching award from the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, winning the U.S. Department of Agriculture Excellence in College and University Teaching Awards for Food and Agricultural Sciences. For 15 years, Mosley has taught several courses in human development and family sciences, including those she developed, Multicultural Families and Introduction to Cultural Competence.

Her majority appointment has previously been with the U of A System Division of Agriculture, where her research has focused on developing cultural competence. She has given more than 80 invited presentations utilizing her skills and abilities as a trained administrator in the Intercultural Development Inventory. She has also published over 60 articles and received over $4.1 million in grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Mosley is also adviser to U of A's MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences) chapter, a university-wide student organization housed in Bumpers College that includes students from every major in the college, ranging from freshmen to doctoral students. The club's purpose is career preparation and professional development participation for students seeking agricultural-related careers.
