Distinguished Lectures Committee Hosts Former Gov. Asa Hutchinson
The Distinguished Lectures Committee and Democracy Fellows are partnering to host a lecture featuring former Gov. Asa Hutchinson at 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Faulkner Performing Arts Center. Hutchinson served as the 46th governor of Arkansas from 2015 to 2023 after an extensive career of public service to Arkansas and the nation.
Hutchinson earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Bob Jones University in South Carolina and returned to Arkansas to earn his Juris Doctor law degree from the U of A in 1975.
He was appointed the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas in 1982 by President Ronald Reagan. Hutchinson was first elected to office in 1997, when he ran successfully to serve as the U.S. representative from the 3rd District of Arkansas, which covers Northwest Arkansas.
President George W. Bush appointed him the eighth administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, where he served until 2003, when he was appointed Under Secretary of Homeland Security. In 2014, he was elected governor and served the maximum two terms. In 2024, he ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for president.
The lecture will be free to all students and community members, but tickets are limited. You can reserve tickets through Hogsync. We hope to see you there!
