Pat Walker Health Center Welcomes Dr. Scott Brenner as Full-Time Psychiatrist
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Medical Services at Pat Walker Health Center (PWHC) is pleased to announce that Dr. Scott Brenner, D.O., has joined the psychiatry team as a full-time psychiatrist, expanding access to high-quality mental health care for students, faculty, and staff at the University of Arkansas.
"I am thrilled to join the healthcare team at Pat Walker Health Center!" Brenner said. "I had an opportunity during residency at the University of Missouri to work in their student health center where I found my calling to care for students who are encountering new or pre-existing mental health difficulties."
Brenner has served as a contract employee on the psychiatry team at PWHC since 2022, and his transition to a full-time psychiatrist reflects Medical Services' ongoing commitment to supporting the well-being of the campus community through expert psychiatric care.
A board-certified adult psychiatrist, Brenner has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, PTSD, schizophrenia, panic attacks, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
"I thoroughly enjoy the university student patient population, who are engaged in their treatment goals during this exciting and transitional time in their lives," Brenner said.
With growing awareness of the importance of mental health, having a full-time psychiatrist on staff ensures students, faculty, and staff have reliable access to expert psychiatric care without needing to seek services off-campus.
"It is especially beneficial to directly collaborate with the on-site primary care, women's clinic, and therapy teams to fully address the medical and mental health needs of each patient," Brenner said. "It is a rarity to have so many resources available in the same building. The staff and medical providers have been very supportive."
Dr. Huda Sharaf, medical director at PWHC, emphasized the impact of Brenner joining the staff full-time, saying, "Dr. Brenner's expertise and dedication to mental health care has greatly benefited our campus community."
"His presence as a full-time psychiatrist will help us better meet the mental health needs of our students, faculty and staff, providing comprehensive, compassionate and evidence-based care in a familiar and supportive environment," Sharaf said.
A University of Arkansas alumnus, Brenner earned his Bachelor of Science in biology before completing his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. He later completed his Adult Psychiatry Residency at the University of Missouri and has since gained valuable clinical experience at Burrell Behavioral Health. Brenner is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association.
As an undergraduate, Brenner was a member of the Razorback Marching Band for three years, further deepening his connection to the university and the Fayetteville community. "It is great to return to my alma mater and Fayetteville. Go Hogs!" Brenner said.
