Distinguished Virologist Valerian Dolja to Speak on Global RNA Virome
The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology is excited to welcome Valerian Dolja, a leading expert in plant virology, for a seminar titled, "Diversity and Evolution of the Global RNA Virome: From Bacteriophages to Viruses of Plants and Animals." This event will take place at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the Plant Science Building room 009, offering an in-depth exploration of the vast and evolving world of RNA viruses across diverse biological kingdoms.
Dolja's research has greatly advanced our understanding of virus-host interactions, viral evolution and the implications of RNA virome diversity on global health and agriculture. His lecture promises to provide a comprehensive overview of RNA viruses, from bacteriophages to viruses affecting plants and animals, and to shed light on their roles in ecological and evolutionary processes.
The seminar will conclude with a Q&A session, inviting attendees to discuss the implications of Dolja's findings and engage with the complexities of viral evolution in the context of global biodiversity.
