As part of the Arkansas Union's current renovation slate, the large west-side stairwells will close for at least three weeks starting Monday, Oct. 21.

The two large stairwells, which face Razorback Stadium, will be closed to perform maintenance work both on the stairs themselves and surrounding structure, according to Union Director Rob Stagni. "These stairs weren't original to the building, and so they require more regular upkeep. There are parts of the wall that have looked sub-par for nearly a decade, and it's time we fix that," Stagni said.

The closure will prevent the stairwells from being used during the work, except as an exit during a building emergency. Additionally, the ground-level entrances on the first floor west side will be closed during this work. Students and staff who typically enter these doorways leading up from the stadium parking lot will need to continue walking around the Union in order to enter.

"We want everyone to be safe, so staying clear of these stairwells will be key," Stagni said. "The Union will work with the contractor to makes sure adequate signage is placed to help direct people around the work."
