U of A Inspirational Chorale to Present "The Evolution of Praise" Concert

The U of A Inspirational Chorale is set to kick off the semester with a powerful concert titled "The Evolution of Praise," showcasing a vibrant blend of gospel songs, spirituals, hymnals and contemporary gospel. The concert will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center. Admission is free, making this an accessible celebration of music and culture for all.

Under the direction of professor Lauren N. Clare, who is serving as interim conductor this year, the chorale will perform works by renowned composers including Moses Hogan, Richard Smallwood, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond and Jacob Collier. This concert promises to be a captivating journey through the rich tapestry of Black sacred music, illustrating its evolution from traditional hymns to modern gospel influences.

Joining the chorale for this special event is guest artist Jabee, a three-time Emmy Award-winning hip hop artist and activist. Known for his poignant lyrics and community engagement, Jabee has used his platform to address social issues and inspire change. His performances have garnered acclaim, blending musical talent with a commitment to activism, making him a powerful voice in contemporary music.

The Inspirational Chorale, established in 1977, is the longest-running diversity initiative at the U of A. Its mission is to preserve and promote the Black sacred music tradition, ensuring that these rich cultural and musical legacies continue to thrive on campus and beyond. The ensemble has been a vital part of the university's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, creating a space where students can explore their artistic expression while honoring their heritage.

Attendees can look forward to an inspiring evening filled with uplifting music and meaningful dialogue. The event will also feature an artist talk with Jabee, providing an opportunity for audience members to engage with the artist and gain insight into his work and advocacy.
