Cybersecurity Best Practices When Using AI

Using artificial intelligence (AI) tools can be incredibly beneficial, but it's essential to protect your personal information while doing so. Below are some helpful tips when using AI: 

• Be Mindful of the Data You Share: Avoid sharing sensitive data such as your full name, address, phone number, social security number or financial details with AI tools. 

• Use Reputable Tools: Use AI tools from reputable companies that prioritize security and privacy. Review the privacy policies of AI tools to understand how your data will be used, stored and shared.  

• Use Offline When Possible: If an AI tool can function offline, consider using it that way to prevent data from being transmitted over the internet. 

• Know the Risks: Keep up to date with the latest news on AI security and privacy risks, knowing the potential risks helps to use AI more safely. Be aware that AI models might inadvertently leak data or be used to infer personal information.  

• Regularly Review Data Permissions: Revoke access to any data or services that are no longer necessary. If an AI tool allows for data management or deletion, make sure to do so regularly.
