Middle East Studies and Jewish Studies to Offer Fall Seminar on Israeli Politics and Society
The King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies, in collaboration with the Jewish Studies Program, is pleased to welcome Shai Gortler to the U of A faculty for the fall 2024 semester. Gortler, an expert in Israeli history, society and politics, will be offering seminars on Israel in fall and spring, and will also be creating educational events open to the wider community.
Shirin Saeidi states, "With the increased focus on Israeli politics, it became my main priority as director of the Middle East Studies Program to help students understand the news in real time with the insights of a leading scholar, Dr. Shai Gortler."
"We thought it important to find a way to work together and create educational opportunities for our students to learn about Israeli history—which is a Middle East Studies topic as much as a Jewish Studies topic," said Jennifer Hoyer, director of Jewish studies.
Gortler's seminar MEST 40003/JWST 4700V/PLSC 4000V "Introduction to Israeli Politics and Society" will be offered 4:35-5:50 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.
