The Department of Music welcomes cellist Angelika Machnik-Jones for a special guest artist concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Giffels Auditorium in Old Main.

The program, titled "From Darkness to Light," is all solo cello, with the use of electronics and some pre-recorded tracks. With the help of poetry weaved in between music, the artist takes the listener on a spiritual journey from darkness to light.

"I presented this program at Oklahoma Contemporary in partnership with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic two seasons ago, and last season I presented it as the opening concert for Soluna Concert Series' inaugural season," Machnik-Jones said. "It is a beautiful program, which merges art forms to create a memorable experience."

Pieces performed will be from Krzysztof Penderecki, Arvo Pärt, Caroline Shaw and Vasks. The concert is free and open to the public.
