KUAF hosts Member Appreciation Week With On-Air and In-Person Events
KUAF, local National Public Radio affiliate for Northwest and western Arkansas, is hosting the second annual Member Appreciation week, Oct. 9-13. Created to focus on the importance of donor support and to thank donors who give to the radio station, Member Appreciation week will include on-air giveaways to donors, coffee and donuts at the station and a trivia night honoring long-time supporters from 6-8 p.m Friday, Oct. 13.
"This is the second year we've had an entire week dedicated to thanking our donors," said Leigh Wood, KUAF general manager. "We had such a tremendous response during our fall fundraising month of September, we wanted to expand Member Appreciation week to include fun and interactive ways to thank the community of donors who keep KUAF going strong."
Ways to engage with KUAF during Member Appreciation week include on-air and online giveaways on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Monday, Oct. 9, random winners will be chosen from the subscribers to KUAF's newsletters. On Tuesday, Oct. 10, random winners will be chosen from followers of KUAF's Instagram account. On Wednesday, Oct. 11, listeners to Ozarks at Large will have the opportunity to win prizes by calling the station during the noon edition of the program. And throughout the week on Ozarks at Large, listeners will hear a sample of some of the trivia questions that will be a part of the trivia night on Friday, Oct. 13.
On Thursday morning, Oct. 12, KUAF will be serving coffee and donuts to donors and listeners at the station from 7-10 a.m., and the week concludes with the first-ever Member Appreciation Trivia night at Black Apple Hard Cider in Springdale, from 6-8 p.m. The trivia night will include questions in five categories on the history of KUAF, the Northwest Arkansas region in general, general knowledge of NPR and more. The trivia portion of the evening will be hosted by the KUAF news director, Kyle Kellams.
Longtime supporters Bruce and Ann Applegate, Lynn and Joel Carver, and Bill Palkowsky of Spring Street Grill will be honored at the event on Friday, Oct. 13. The District 3 podcast, the state's first bilingual podcast, will also be recognized with a Community Partner award as well.
The Member Appreciation Trivia night is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. KUAF is asking those interested in attending to make a reservation here.
Last fiscal year, from July of 2022 to June of 2023, donations to KUAF from individual listeners totaled more than $762,000, making up 70% of the station's entire operating budget. "Donations to KUAF from individual listeners are incredibly important to the health of the station," Wood said. "We simply would not be able to provide the level of service we provide without the support of the community."
