U of A alumni Sherman Black and Lynnette Reeder Black have announced this year's recipient of the Black and Reeder Scholarship, which is awarded to a Greenwood High School student seeking a degree in engineering or business at the U of A.

Maggie Leonard will graduate from Greenwood High School on May 19 and plans to study marketing in the Sam M. Walton College of Business.

Leonard is president of Greenwood High School's Health Occupation Students of America Club and served as secretary of the 2022-23 senior class. She's a member of Beta Club, Partner's Club, Student Section leader and captain of the girl's golf team.

She will enter college as a sophomore, having earned 28 college course credits through programs available at Greenwood High School.

The Blacks created the scholarship as a way to give back to the community and honor their parents, Galen and Wilma Black and Van and Carolyn Reeder, longtime residents of Greenwood. Recipients' $4,000 annual awards are renewable if they meet scholarship requirements.

Black and Reeder Scholarship recipients whose awards will continue next fall are Noah Doss, a senior in business; Trey Smith, a junior in biomedical engineering; and Gavin Holland, a sophomore in electrical engineering.
