Professor Christian Goering to Moderate Q&A With Tyler James Williams Thursday

Tyler James Williams, actor and 2023 Golden Globe winner, will deliver a moderated Q&A as part of the Distinguished Lectures Committee's series at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at the Fayetteville Town Center, 15 W. Mountain St., on the Fayetteville Square. Tickets are required for the event.

The event will be moderated by Christian Goering, a professor of curriculum and instruction at the U of A, where he prepares future English teachers, teachers of English teachers and educational researchers to interpret and act on the world for good. He serves as coordinator of secondary education, director of the Northwest Arkansas Writing Project and as vice-chair of Faculty Senate. From 2018-2020 he chaired the English Language Arts Teacher Educators.

The Distinguished Lectures Committee is still hosting Williams this Thursday, April 27, at the Fayetteville Town Center. Tickets are still available – reserve yours today at osa.uark.edu. Anyone planning to attend in person must reserve a free ticket. Ticket reservations for students, faculty and staff that have a current uark.edu email address are available (log-in required). Any remining tickets became available to the general public on Friday, April 21. Ticket reservation links are available at osa.uark.edu.

There will be a recording available for students, faculty and staff at the U of A at video.uark.edu for 30 days post-lecture. A uark.edu login will be required.

Williams is the 2023 Golden Globe Winner for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, Comedy or Drama for his role of Gregory Eddie in the hit award-winning series Abbott Elementary.

After hitting it off with Quinta Brunson on A Black Lady Sketch Show, she specifically wrote the Abbott Elementary substitute teacher character with Williams in mind. He can also be seen recurring in the sketch comedy History Of The World: Part II which premiered on Hulu on March 6, 2023.

On the feature film side, Williams can be seen in the critically acclaimed film The United States Vs. Billie Holiday (2021), playing Lester "The Prez" Young, alongside Andra Day, who received an Oscar nomination for her turn as Billie Holiday. Previously, Williams co-starred in the indie comedy The Argument, directed by Robert Schwartzman, and starred in The Wedding Year (2019) opposite Sarah Hyland. He played a pivotal part in Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit (2017) alongside Will Poulter. Williams also had a starring role in the Sundance winning feature Dear White People (2014). In addition, he appeared opposite Craig Robinson and Kerry Washington in Peepeles (2013) for Lionsgate and in Paul Feig's Unaccompanied Minors (2006) for Warner Bros.

On the television side, Tyler starred in ABC's Whiskey Cavalier opposite Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan. He also starred in CBS' Criminal Minds. He had a recurring role on HBO and Peter Berg's Ballers, and before that in season 5 of AMC's The Walking Dead. Perhaps most notably, Williams was discovered at the age of five for Chris Rock's Everyone Hates Chris, which he starred in for four seasons.

Outside of acting, Williams is a talented musician, songwriter and producer with songs available on iTunes. Born in Harlem, New York, and raised in Yonkers, Williams lives between New York and Los Angeles.
