Bumpers College Recognizes Yearly Academic Award Winners & Ambassadors

Seven students in five different majors from U of A's Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences received nine annual academic awards from the college last week.

Jonathan Brye, an environmental, soil and water science major, and Anna Mathis, an agricultural education, communication and technology major with dual concentrations in agricultural communications and agricultural leadership, are both double-award winners.

Brye received the Presidential Scholar Award and the John W. White Outstanding Student Award.

Mathis received the Spitze Public Policy Legislative Internship Award and the Greg Weidemann Bumpers College Alumni Society Scholarship award.

Clay Maynard, Hannah Ferguson and Natasha Hightower were named Dale Bumpers Distinguished Scholars. Maynard, in poultry science, is the Ph.D. recipient; Ferguson, in agricultural and extension education, is the master's degree winner; and Hightower, in agricultural education, communication and technology, is the undergraduate transfer honoree.

Clark Griscom, a food science major, is the Stanley E. Reed Internship Award recipient. Madison Estepp, an agricultural education, communication and technology major, is the Bumpers College Alumni Society Rising Senior Award winner.

The college also recognized its ambassadors for 2022-23. The group represents the college at on-campus and off-campus functions and events and assists the Dean's Office with multiple projects. This year's group included Estepp (lead ambassador), Kaleb Barenberg, poultry science; Alexis Fiorentino, animal science; Gracie Hewat, agricultural education, communication and technology; Katie Hope, food science; Brooklyn Johnson, agricultural education, communication and technology; Abby Lunn, food science; Payton McGinnis, agricultural education, communication and technology; Muhammad Ali Muhammad, poultry science; Molly Parker, agricultural economics and agribusiness; Jimena Rodriguez, animal science; Haley Stanton, animal science; and Lyla Warren, poultry science.

They were recognized at a reception on April 19 at the Don Tyson Center for Agricultural Sciences.
