Join PSA for Iftar, the Fast-Breaking Evening Meal, April 19
The Pakistani Student Association invites students to attend the PSAxMSA Iftar. An iftar is the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims during Ramadan. Join them for traditional food and information about fasting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Cordia Harrington Center for Excellence, room 349. This event is non-ticketed and open to all currently enrolled U of A students.
Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community, with Muslim people gathering to break their fast together. In Pakistan, almost everybody stops to rejoice for a few minutes following the iftar sirens and adhan (call to prayer). Preparations for iftar commence about three hours beforehand in homes and at restaurants. This iftar introduces the common culture of Pakistanis and Muslims to students from all around the world. Together, the Pakistani Student Association and the Muslim Students Association aim to celebrate our customs to bring integrity to the Pakistani and Muslim communities on campus, as well as introduce our traditions to other students who are interested in such events. More information regarding an iftar and its customs is available on Wikipedia.
This event is supported by the Student Activities Fee as a funded event by the Associated Student Government and is free to all currently enrolled University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, students who pay the student activities fee.
