RSOs Encourage Involvement in Hogeye Marathon

The Arkansas Athletic Training Student Association and the U of A Running Club encourage students, faculty and staff to get involved with the Hogeye Marathon to be held in Springdale, Arkansas, on April 15-16.

The Hogeye Marathon is a community event with the sole purpose of raising money for local charities. In the past five years, more than $150,000 has been donated from the event. This running race and associated events have been held since 1977.

The Hogeye Marathon is a high-quality running event including a marathon, marathon relay (four-person teams), half-marathon, 10k and 5k. The event involves many in the community. Opportunities for involvement extend beyond running the events. Opportunities include volunteer medical coverage (for healthcare professionals and healthcare students), water/aid stations (for anyone), course entertainment and event coordination. Four-person teams are encouraged to run the marathon relay — perhaps as a departmental competition.

"The Hogeye Marathon is a great running event that thrives because of the involvement of so many volunteers," said Brendon McDermott, faculty adviser for AATSA and Hogeye Marathon medical coordinator. "I am excited to see our university volunteers getting involved helping the local community."
