Al-Islam Students Association Cosponsors Seminar on Islamic Moral Philosophy
Al-Islam Students Association is co-sponsoring a seminar with Ayman Shihadeh titled, "New Insights on Moral Philosophy in Premodern Islamic Thought," from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, in the Gearhart Hall Auditorium, GEAR 026.
Al-Islam Students Association is co-sponsoring a seminar with Ayman Shihadeh titled "New Insights on Moral Philosophy in Premodern Islamic Thought" from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, in the Gearhart Hall Auditorium, GEAR 026. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and a reception with Middle Eastern food in GEAR 130.
All U of A students are welcome to attend. The seminar is also supported by many U of A programs, including the King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies, the Honors College and Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
Shihadeh (D.Phil., Oxford) is professor of Arabic and Islamic intellectual history, and the head of the School of History, Religions and Philosophies at SOAS University of London. He is the editor-in-chief of the Bulletin of SOAS and the philosophy and theology editor at the Encyclopedia of Islam, published by Brill. Professor Shihadeh specializes in the history of philosophy and religious thought in the premodern Islamic world and has published two monographs, several edited books and many articles on the subject. His wide range of research interests include ethical theory in Islamic theology, philosophy and jurisprudence.
Al-Islam Student Association was established at the U of A as an RSO in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy, with the aim of reducing misunderstandings and misconceptions about Islam through education and to promote diversity and inclusion. Al-Islam has successfully held more than 25 seminars by professors, faith leaders and other motivational speakers over the years.
This event is supported by the Student Activities Fee as a funded event by the Associated Student Government and is free to all currently enrolled University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, students who pay the student activities fee.
