The University Libraries and University Human Resources are partnering to offer a book club for staff and faculty. Each month beginning this April, the group will vote on one book to read and meet once in Mullins Library for discussion.

This club is open to any and all U of A employees. Leading the discussion are Kimberly Larsen, undergraduate engagement librarian, and Shannon Siebler, Human Resources program specialist and former high school English teacher.

Larsen previously led a campus book club for students and has provided a list of popular fiction titles to choose from below. Members are welcome to submit recommendations for future months. At least one copy of each month's selection will be made available in Mullins Library.

"We've had great success with our student iteration, Razorbook Club, and I am very excited to bring a fiction book club to our faculty and staff," Larsen said. "Our goal is to provide a time and space for people to connect over reading and unwind. It was important to us when launching this club to pick titles that would provide an escape rather than a challenge, and to situate the meetings during lunch to make them a little escape during everyone's busy schedule, rather than an extra thing to do after work."

Specific meeting dates and monthly titles will be decided based on member feedback. Those interested in participating should email Siebler by March 22 with their availability and preferred selection from the following list:

  • Book Lovers by Emily Henry (romance)
  • Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid (literary fiction)
  • Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano (mystery)
  • Hester by Laurie Lico Albanese (historical fiction)
  • Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng (science fiction)
