The SHE Festival of Women in Music will kick off its fifth annual celebration this weekend with an exciting series of concerts, lectures and lecture-recitals featuring music composed by women.  

On Saturday, March 11, all events will take place in Hillside Auditorium, beginning with a welcoming lunch reception at noon, followed by an afternoon of academic lectures by guest presenters and U of A faculty, including Christa Bentley, Wing Lau and Joon Park. A round-table discussion, "The Women Are Up to Something," led by Department of Music Chair Lia Uribe, starts at 4:15 p.m. Saturday's activities wind up with a concert at 7:30 p.m. with a variety of guest artists.

On Sunday, March 12, most events take place at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center, including the U of A Student Collage Concert at 3:30 p.m., a dinner reception in the lobby at 6:30 p.m. and the Faculty Collage Concert at 7:30 p.m.  

The SHE Festival began in 2019 as a celebration of the contributions of women and artistry of women in music and is presented yearly in conjunction with Women's History Month. The festival features the music of composers and performers who identify as women or other non-cis-male people. In the spring of 2022, the SHE committee decided to share the event nationally to bring talented individuals together creating a space of transparency and support surrounding female identity in music. SHE has brought dozens of guests to campus and has worked to help diversify and expand the canon of classical music repertoire.
