The Classical Studies program is thrilled to announce the promotion of Joy Reeber to teaching assistant professor of classics.

Reeber joined the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures in 2012 after completing her Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a talented and dedicated educator who has contributed enormously to the Classical Studies Program by teaching all levels of Latin and Ancient Greek and cultural studies courses in translation (e.g., Greek and Roman Mythology), as well as designing new cross-disciplinary courses for the program on Sex(uality) and Gender in Ancient Greece and Rome and the Classical Roots of English Language. She also co-led the Classics in Italy study abroad program in 2018 and will be joining the Fulbright Honors Program's H2P-1 team in the fall.

As a teacher-scholar, Reeber regularly presents her research on the Roman poet Ovid and has a forthcoming article on a multivocal approach to teaching Petronius in intermediate Latin. Her colleague and co-author, assistant professor Rhodora Vennarucci, said, "I am a better language teacher because of my close collaboration with Joy over the years. She is an inspiration to me and to her students." If you have an opportunity to take a course with Reeber, do so, and you will not be sorry.

Please join the Classical Studies Program in congratulating Reeber on her well-deserved promotion!
