Dr. Bermeo to Discuss Climate Change, Migration and Development

The International and Global Studies (INST) program, in cooperation with the Department of Political Science in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Economics in the Walton College of Business, is pleased to announce the inaugural lecture in the new interdisciplinary speakers' series on Global Development and Governance. Dr. Sarah Bermeo from Duke University will give a presentation on "Climate Change, Migration and Development" on Feb. 23 from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Student Success Center (CORD 324).

Bermeo is a political economist and associate professor of public policy and political science in the Sanford School at Duke University and director of graduate studies (DGS) for the Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) program housed in the Duke Center for Development. Her research lies at the intersection of international relations and development, with a particular focus on foreign aid, trade agreements, migration and global public goods. She holds a doctorate from Princeton University. She is the author of Targeted Development: Industrialized Country Strategy in a Globalizing World (Oxford, 2018). Her work has appeared in International Organization, Journal of Politics and World Development. Her article, "Aid is Not Oil," received the 2016 Robert O. Keohane Award from International Organization.

The interdisciplinary speakers' series on Global Development and Governance is intended to provide U of A students and faculty members with an opportunity to interact with experts on global development and expand their knowledge of today's most pressing global challenges.
