Engine Week returns Feb. 20-24 with several events to increase awareness and excitement about what is happening in the College of Engineering.

All faculty, staff and students are welcome, regardless of their area of study. The week is filled with activities involving engineering departments and registered student organizations.

The tradition of Engine Week began at the U of A in 1909. Its purpose is to celebrate engineers' role in ensuring a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Engine Week is an excellent opportunity to have fun while fostering and cultivating passion and dedication to engineering, said Patrice Storey and Thomas Carter, who lead the Engineering Student Council, which organizes these events.

"There is a national call to action to increase understanding and interest in engineering," said Storey, assistant director of the Office of Justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. "This is one way for us to celebrate the diverse majors within the College of Engineering and the entire university."

Without the lively "Stick 'Em Up" competition, no Engine Week would be complete. Students must use all their engineering knowledge to tape a team member to the wall 24 inches off the floor. Teams have two minutes to use up to one full roll of duct tape to accomplish the task. The team with the last person still "standing" thanks to a creative tape job, is declared the winner.
