Entomology and Plant Pathology to Feature Carlos Ariel Angel as Part of Spring Seminar Series
The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology is hosting a virtual seminar as part of the Spring 2023 Seminar Series. The seminar is scheduled to take place from 3:30-5 p.m. today, Feb. 7, in PTSC 009. A social period will precede the seminar at 3:15 p.m., with light snacks and drinks just outside the lecture hall.

Carlos Ariel Angel is an agricultural engineer from the University of Caldas in Manizales in Caldas, Colombia. He joined the Discipline of Phytopathology of CENICAFÉ of the FNC in 1995 as an undergraduate scholar. He is a researcher for Colciencias and the IDB, investigating diseases and pests in orchids, Coffee Iron Spot and viruses in coffee, and since 2000 he has been part of the CENICAFÉ research team.
He completed a Ph.D. in plant pathology with a scholarship at the University of Missouri, Columbia, between 2004 and 2009, investigating the characterization of resistance mechanisms to Tombusvirus in tobacco species. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the same university until 2012 in Plant Stress Biology and Virus Biotechnology for Functional Genomics. He returned to Colombia and directed the Cenicaña Phytopathology Area for three years. Since 2016 he returned to his CENICAFÉ home at the FNC as a scientific researcher III and leader of the Phytopathology Discipline, recognized by MinCiencias as a Category A group.
