Andre Locke and Karen Wells, Parents of Amir Locke, to Speak March 2

Andre "Buddy" Locke Sr. and Karen Wells, parents of Amir Locke, will be visiting the U of A campus on March 2, 2023, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Union Theater on the fourth floor of the Arkansas Union.

Andre "Buddy" Locke Sr. and Karen Wells, parents of Amir Locke, will be visiting the U of A campus on March 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Union Theater on the fourth floor of the Arkansas Union. This event will be hosted by Solidarity Society, in conjunction with the Multicultural Center, Undergraduate Mock Trial and Young Democrats. Locke and Wells will be joined with their attorneys, Jeff Storms and Antonio Romanucci, two civil rights activists who have handled some of the largest cases in the United States, including George Floyd's in 2020.  

On Feb. 2, 2022, Amir Locke, 22, was shot and killed by police officers during a no-knock warrant in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Amir Locke was sleeping when the shooting occurred. No criminal charges were ever filed against the officers involved in the shooting. In honor of their son, Andre Locke and Karen Wells now advocate to end no-knock warrants and for police and criminal justice reform.  

This event is supported by the Student Activities Fee as a funded event by the Associated Student Government and is free to all currently-enrolled University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, students who pay the student activities fee. This event is held in a venue that meets ADA standards. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend this event.
