Voice Students Compete Well in Regional Conference

Department of Music vocal students traveled to Monroe, Louisiana, Nov. 10-12 to compete in the 47th annual National Association of Teachers of Singing Southern Regional Conference.

The top five singers from each eligible region category advance to the national online preliminary round, where entrants submit videos of their performances for adjudication by a panel of international judges. Fourteen singers from each of the 18 categories will then advance to the national semifinal round. The top three singers from each category will be selected to compete in the final round. The national semifinal and final rounds will be held in conjunction with the 2023 NATS summer workshop.

The U of A had six students advancing to the online preliminary round from the following studios:

Moon-Sook Park Studio

  • Kevin Willis Ffirst Year Classical TBB): 1st place

  • Kalista Brown (First Year Classical Treble): 4th place

  • Juan Garcia (Upper Advanced Classical TBB): 1st place

Lauren Clare Studio

  • Markell Cox (Second Year Classical TBB): 2nd Place; and (Second Year Musical Theatre TBB): 2nd Place

Jonathan Stinson Studio

  • Dominique Butcher (Lower Advanced TBB): 3rd place

Lenora Green-Turner Studio

  • Sonya Faulknor (Upper Advanced Classical Treble): 1st Place

  • Henedina Garavito-Davies (Older Student Adult Trebles and TBB): 2nd Place
