U of A Opera Theatre Presents 'Gianni Schicchi' by Giacomo Puccini
The Department of Music's Opera Theatre presents Giacomo Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" in a four-appearance run from Friday through Sunday, Nov. 18-20. The opera opens on Friday evening in the Faulkner Performing Arts Center.
This beloved comedic opera is performed in the original Italian with English supertitles. Audiences of all ages will enjoy the humurous conflict that comes with family matters set in Florence, Italy. The company is under stage direction from conductor Jonathan Stinson with musical direction provided by guest pianist Lyndon Meyer.
The cast includes music undergraduate and graduate students, non-music majors and guest performers bringing Puccini's lovable comedy to life on two stages. The Faulkner Center will host two appearances of "Gianni Schicchi" — 7:30 p.m Friday, Nov. 18, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20. The Arkansas Arts Academy in Rogers will host two performances at 4 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.
Tickets for the Faulkner Performing Arts Center performances are free but must be reserved through uark.universitytickets.com. The performances at the Arkansas Arts Academy are first come, first served.
