UARK Speech and Debate posing with nine earned awards this past weekend.

Over Homecoming Weekend, the U of A Speech and Debate Society traveled to Shreveport, Louisiana, to compete at the LSUS Red River Swing tournament. Among the 21 teams that competed, the U of A debate team saw great success, including:

  • Out of 11 competitors, six advanced to the next level of competition
  • Three double-octofinalists
  • Two octofinalists
  • One quarterfinalist
  • One fourth place speaker in the JV division

These individual successes led the team to win both fifth place individual debate sweepstakes (out of 21 schools) and fifth place overall sweepstakes (out of 21 schools, including Team IPDA, which they did not compete in).

This marks the teams first, hopefully of many, individual tournament sweepstakes award. To learn more about joining the debate team, email coach Hannah Morris at Hannahm@uark.edu or President Daisy Rehbock at derehboc@uark.edu.
