Research Funding Informational Sessions Offered This Fall
The Division of Research and Innovation is hosting a series of research funding informational sessions this fall. The six hybrid sessions will be led by campus experts in each field. Any faculty and staff interested in learning more about these topics are welcome to attend.
Research Proposal Resources on Campus: Tuesday, Sept. 20, 3:30-5 p.m
In this first session of the year, we will highlight on-campus proposal resources available to investigators who are applying for external sponsored funding. We will hear overviews of the services offered through Sponsored Programs, Research Integrity and Compliance, University Libraries Data Services, Industry Research Partnerships, the Office of Foundation Relations, the Grant Editing and Consulting Group, and Research Development.
ScienCV 101: Thursday, Sept. 28, 3:30-5 p.m.
Join Lora Lennertz, data services librarian, in this session covering all things ScienCV. Lennertz will walk us through what ScienCV is, which sponsors require its use and how to set up a profile and add information to the ScienCV system.
Post-Award Basics: Monday, Oct. 10, 3:30-5 p.m.
In this session, Katie Tracy, director of research accounting, will walk us through what happens when a sponsored project is awarded funding. She will cover post-award basic terminology, the steps of the post-award process and common post-award pitfalls to avoid. She will also give attendees guidance on who to reach out to if an investigator has questions about their sponsored project award.
How to Read Funding Opportunity Announcements: Tuesday, Oct. 25, 3:30-5 p.m.
Molly Throgmorton, associate director for research development, will walk attendees through every aspect of a funding opportunity announcement. Attendees will learn about the different types of funding opportunity announcements, the information commonly communicated in them and how to develop a proposal using this information.
Introduction to SBIRs and STTRs: Wednesday, Nov. 9, 3:30-5 p.m.
Join Lauren Merriman, associate director for industry research partnerships, as she goes over key information about the SBIR and STTR funding programs. This session will give an overview of the purpose of these two programs, their eligibility criteria and what type of proposals are considered competitive. We will also look at key features of successful SBIR/STTR proposals from the U of A.
Overview of Department of Education Funding: Thursday, Dec. 1, 3:30-5 p.m.
This session will provide an overview of the Department of Education as a federal funding agency. We will discuss the Department of Education's funding priorities, solicitation types and proposal resources. We will also hear from a panel of on-campus Department of Education awardees. These panelists will offer guidance on how to find funding opportunities that are right for you, tips for developing successful proposals and advice for the administrative side of the proposal process.
