Student Standards and Conduct Renamed to the Office of Student Accountability

The Office of Student Standards and Conduct is now the Office of Student Accountability. This new name reflects a focus on student wellbeing, advocacy and accountability.

"The office has historically been focused on creating and facilitating a process for students that optimizes learning opportunities in a developmental and educational way. The new office name now reflects this practice," said Monica D. Holland, assistant vice chancellor for Student Life. "The name change places the focus squarely on assisting students in a positive, productive, educational decision making process that benefits their education and relationship with the community."

The idea is to move away from parallels between the legal system and the student conduct system, as well as breaking the common misconception that the conduct process is intended to implement punishments for students found in violation of the Code of Student Life.

"We look forward to continuing to serve all members of the faculty, staff, students and the larger community that interact with our office to ensure the University of Arkansas continues to be a supportive, inclusive, and engaged community," said Rachel Eikenberry, director of student accountability. "We believe that words can be powerful and impactful in both the campus and community perception of the roles of our office. This philosophical shift will hopefully aid in making meaningful changes in the perception that students, faculty, and staff have of our process."

"The goal is to ensure that all individuals that interact with our office will experience our mission to promote a supportive, inclusive, and engaged University of Arkansas community through the facilitation of an equitable, educational, and consistent student accountability process," Eikenberry said. "We do this by advocating for the needs of everyone navigating the student accountability process by embracing the principles of compassion, empathetic understanding, and objectivity."

All individuals are encouraged to review the student conduct process as outlined in the Code of Student Life. Should anyone need to report a possible matter of student misconduct, please do so at report.uark.edu
