A construction project on Razorback Road will begin this week to complete the pedestrian safety improvements planned for the road. This is the last piece of a multi-year, multi-phase project that has completed road widening, storm sewer, curb and gutter, and sidewalks between 15th Street and North Street.

The construction is funded in part by the city of Fayetteville in coordination with Arkansas Department of Transportation and the CRRSAA Grant (Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act). The construction contractor will begin mobilizing this week, and work will be complete by mid-August, adding a southbound lane between Hotz Drive and the Nolan Richardson Drive intersection.

Pedestrian safety Improvements are a significant objective for the project. The phase will complete the sidewalk on the west side of Razorback Road just north of Nolan Richardson Drive to Hotz Drive. A new crosswalk and crosswalk light will be added across Center Street at Razorback Road with greenspace, landscaping and pedestrian lights along west side of Razorback Road.

Although two-way traffic will be maintained during the construction, lane reductions may be required. Drivers should be aware that Center Street access to Razorback Road will be closed for most of the summer. The Meadow Street intersection and Noland Richardson Drive intersection will be used instead.

Additionally, a row of parking along the west side of the street in the affected area will be blocked to protect vehicles from construction.
