Megan Park, a senior majoring in trumpet performance and music education in the Department of Music, has won the Bryan & Nancy Goff Conference Scholarship in the Ryan Anthony Memorial Trumpet Competition for the 2022 International Trumpet Guild Conference.

This international award comes with a cash prize and free registration to this year's ITG Conference from May 31 to June 4, in San Antonio, Texas.

To earn this distinction, Park submitted live recordings of Caprice by Joseph Turrin and "Du style" from 36 Transcendental Etudes by Theo Charlier. Winners of the annual ITG competitions are anonymously judged by a professional panel of trumpet artists from around the world.

"Megan is one of my finest students and a leader in my trumpet studio. She has worked very hard over the years and is realizing her potential as a trumpet artist," said Richard Rulli, professor of trumpet at the U of A and Park's mentor.

"In addition, she is a very kind and generous person, often mentoring younger students in the studio. She is very deserving of this international award and recognition. What is more remarkable is that Megan previously won a Conference Scholarship award in the spring of 2020. Unfortunately, that conference was not held due to the pandemic. That makes this accomplishment even more satisfying for her," he added.

In addition to her accomplishments in the U of A Trumpet Studio, Park is a member of the trumpet section of the U of A Wind Ensemble and has previously played in the U of A Symphony Orchestra. Park is also a previous winner of the U of A Department of Music Honors Recital competition. She is a founding member and leader of the Loblolly Brass Quintet U of A student ensemble and was featured recently performing Alexandra Pakhmutova's Concerto for Trumpet for the Department of Music's SHE Festival student collage recital.
