Speech and Debate Team Succeeds in First Semester of Reactivity

The newly reformed UARK Speech and Debate team has made major strides within its first semester of reactivity.

As of December the team is: 

  • Ranked No. 10 in the country for the Founders Cup

  • Ranked No. 9 in the country for the Scholastic Cup

  • Ranked No. 8 in the country for Novice Squad

  • Ranked No. 10 in the country for Junior Varsity Squad

  • Ranked in the top 20 in the country for Varsity Squad

  • Ranked No. 11 in the country for Professional Squad (students with a bachelor's degree)

The speech and debate team has won, as of Jan. 30, 28 awards, six of which were outstanding speaker trophies, four of which were students who were named state champions for the state of Arkansas, one of which was a 3rd place sweepstakes award at a debate tournament with over 25 teams in attendance, and another was a 5th place finish at the first tournament of the year for the team in October. The team also has a member, Megan Dial, who will be representing the state of Arkansas for the 2022-23 school year as the Southern Forensics Championship Tournament student ambassador.
