African and African American Studies Program Academic Scholarship Opportunity

The African and African American Studies Program is pleased to announce the 2022 spring semester academic scholarships. The African and African American Studies Program remains committed to advancing the interests of the students at the U of A while recognizing the academically talented majors in our program.

"AAST is invested in providing a relevant education that prepares students for graduate and professional schools or the job market through our academic programming curated to immerse students in critically studying the complexity of the human experience, as well as through the particular set of skills we train and cultivate in the discipline," said Caree Banton, program director. "These skills, including critical thinking, interdisciplinary analysis and global cultural competence that are the focal point of employers and graduate and professional schools alike form the core of what we do."

To this end, in the process of providing a relevant and rigorous education designed for the real world, the program remains committed to supporting student funding to assist today's scholars in this competitive landscape by helping to defray the costs associated with attending college. To be eligible for African and African American Studies scholarships, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours)
  • Be signed up as a major in African and African American Studies
  • Have completed or currently enrolled in at least three credit hours of AAST courses
  • Hold at least 2.5 GPA

This one-time award ranges up to $5,000. Preference will be given to students with existing minors and/or credit hours in AAST.

Students may go to forms.uark.edu/xfp/form/695 and apply using their UARK credentials.
