The Fine Arts Center Gallery in the School of Art at Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to present Collective Interventions: On Past, Present and Future Topographics, a collaborative curatorial project devised by studio art Master of Fine Arts students meant to develop forms of pedagogical activism.

The gallery and curators of Collective Interventions invite the public to experience this exhibition at a special opening reception tonight, Friday, Sept. 17, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The exhibition will be on display through Oct. 3.

School of Art student curators include recent graduate Kalyn Barnoski, current students Tay Butler, Charles Krampah, Sky Maggiore, Miki Skak and assistant professor of art in photography Zora J Murff.

"Collaboratively curating with my peers made for an exceptional variation of works to create an exhibition that we are proud can be used as an educational tool," Maggiore said.

The artists selected for Collective Interventions come from many backgrounds, and the curators see this collection of perspectives as giving vital voices autonomy over the historical, present and future depiction of landscape. The exhibition is shaped by the convergence of intersectional perspectives on landscape — social, physical and historical.

As audiences move through the gallery, the collective work introduces the themes of ownership, accessibility and adaptability in concerns to these various perspectives of landscape.

Collective Interventions represents these aforementioned themes in concept, form and color so that the viewer may break down boundaries and preconceived notions of landscape to arrive at new understandings.

"The Fine Arts Center Gallery is thrilled to begin the fall semester highlighting an incredible group of artists curated by a new generation of artists from the School of Art Master of Fine Arts program and one of their faculty mentors, Zora J Murff," said Marc Mitchell, associate professor of art and Fine Arts Center Gallery curator and director of exhibitions. "We look forward to welcoming the community at the opening reception tonight."

Artists included in the exhibition are Ariel René Jackson, Cristina Velásquez, Crystal Z. Campbell, Dannielle Bowman, Dionne Lee, Haley Greenfeather, Leah Schretenthaler, Mosie Romney, Nick Drain and Simphiwe Ndzube.

Fine Arts Center Gallery is located in the Fine Arts Building on the first floor. Opening reception is from 5-7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17, and the exhibition will be on display through Oct. 3.
