Greek Life Welcomes Record-Setting New Member Classes with the Interfraternity Council
More than 1,200 potential new members attended the Interfraternity Council Recruitment Orientation session.
Greek Life and the Interfraternity Council welcomed its newest members on Bid Day, Sept. 4, after the conclusion of IFC Fall Recruitment. This year, more than 1,200 students registered for the process — setting a record for Arkansas IFC and setting the curve for fraternity recruitments across the country.
"We are truly grateful for the continued growth and people's desired interest to be a part of U of A Greek Life," said Parice S. Bowser, assistant vice chancellor for Greek Life and associate dean of students. "Several of our fraternity chapters are the largest in the country, which shows the strength of our community at large. This is such a remarkable achievement and appreciate all efforts to make this recruitment one of the best yet!"
The 14 national award-winning fraternity chapters spent months preparing for the recruitment process, provided accommodations for any students who requested a virtual recruitment experience and adhered to university health and safety precautions throughout the events. From pre-recruitment events like the IFC Cookout on Old Main all the way to Bid Day this past weekend, organizations prioritized providing a quality in-person recruitment experience after two semesters of fully virtual recruitments.
John Wilson, Interfraternity Council president, shared the following: "We're thrilled to have so many new men coming into our chapters this semester! I can't wait to see what the future holds for these new members and our council, and the positive impact that IFC will have on the larger community."
After Bid Day, members had a great time cheering on the Hogs to their first season victory against Rice! The Interfraternity Council has a variety of educational programming scheduled for its members this semester, including programs on mental health awareness, cultural competency, community building as a leader and more. More than 730 IFC members have participated in risk management programming already this semester, and Greek Life's next new member program for all four councils takes place next week. The "Keepin' It Real" new member program is scheduled for Sept. 13 and will cover topics such as bystander intervention, risk management and more.
