Bank of England Scholarship to Reduce Financial Barriers for Business Students

Bank of England has made a $100,000 gift that will create a new scholarship for business students who are graduates of Lonoke or Pulaski county high schools.

Bank of England is reducing financial barriers to graduation with a $100,000 gift to the U of A. Their contribution will create the Bank of England Scholarship in the Sam M. Walton College of Business.

“These types of scholarships give so much opportunity to our students and our state,” said Matthew Waller, dean of the Walton College and the Sam Walton Leadership Chair. “It makes an investment in an outstanding student who has already shown an aptitude and interest in business. I am thankful Bank of England has the foresight to see the connection between these students and business in Arkansas.”

New, returning and transfer students enrolled in the Walton College will be eligible for the Bank of England Scholarship. These students must be graduates from high schools in Lonoke or Pulaski counties and exhibit demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students who have completed a pre-college program administered by the U of A, including but not limited to the Fleischer Spirit Scholars, Business Leadership Academy, Accounting Career Awareness Program or Technology Awareness Program. The goal is to support four students annually.

“It’s an absolute honor to award Arkansas business students with assistance for a higher education, and what better school to do that with than the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, the alma mater to many Bank of England employees,” said Brad Canada, executive vice president, Bank of England Mortgage.
