Campus Community Invited to Department of Education Public Hearing on Title IX

U of A faculty, staff and students can register for an upcoming virtual hearing on Title IX from June 7-11, hosted by the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights.

At the hearing, members of the public may comment on steps the department can take to ensure that schools are providing students with educational environments free from discrimination in the form of sexual harassment, which encompasses sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence.

Members of the public may also comment on how the department can continue to ensure that schools have grievance procedures that provide for the fair, prompt and equitable resolution of reports of sexual harassment and other sex discrimination while considering the sensitive issues that are often involved. OCR also seeks the public's comments on the department's role in addressing discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in educational environments.

OCR has designated slots for students, educators and other commenters. OCR particularly encourages students who wish to provide live comments to register for day two (June 8) or day three (June 9) of the hearing. OCR has reserved a greater number of slots for students on these days to ensure that students have adequate opportunity to offer their insights and perspectives.

Registration is required. To register or find out more information, visit the event webpage.
