The Department of Music announces an online contemporary commercial songwriting class for the first summer eight-week session.

This hands-on class will be taught by U of A music faculty member Jake Hertzog and multi-platinum selling professional songwriter Kenny Lamb.

In the course, students will learn to compose songs in contemporary styles while learning to assess technical elements of song: lyrics, melody, form, production and style. Students will understand various methods of demo creation for songwriters and develop understanding of the processes by which songs are marketed to various music industry agents.

This is a special offering for anyone interested in the world of songwriting. The course is open to all students, no prerequisites, instrumental or vocal skills required. All experience levels are welcome!

The course covers writing, basic production, the songwriting business and the crucial place that songs occupy in the music industry and our shared culture.

Students should take this class for an introduction into the music industry and to expand their music composition skills. The class covers all genres of music, so this is an excellent course for those interested in popular styles.

The class is one credit and it is offered online through the U of A Online during the summer eight-week session.
