Stand With Refugees and Learn about the Refugee Resettlement Process on April 26
Students With Refugees invites the campus community to an interactive outdoor pop-up exhibit from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 26, at the Arkansas Union Mall. The pop-up event will allow patrons to walk through exhibits and learn about some of the things current refugees are facing, life in a refugee camp, as well as how they can support refugees here in Northwest Arkansas. Attendees will also receive a free snack from Thai E San.
There are an estimated 26 million people worldwide that have had to flee their homes due to a fear of persecution, making them refugees. Northwest Arkansas is home to the only refugee resettlement agency in the state - Canopy NWA. As a result, our community has resettled and welcomed 192 refugees. These refugees have gone through the long process of fleeing their homes, seeking protection in a refugee camp, resettlement, vetting by the United States government, and ultimately finding a new home by Canopy NWA. This event will spotlight some of the work of Canopy NWA and help guests to learn about the experiences of their refugee neighbors' right here in Northwest Arkansas. As well as the global conflicts that have caused these individuals to have to flee.
