U of A Alum and Award-Winning Poet Sy Hoahwah Hosts Reading and Workshop April 18

On Sunday, April 18, Open Mouth Literary Center presents two events with award-winning poet and U of A alum, Sy Hoahwah.

Hoahwah will first lead a poetry workshop at 2 p.m. Then, he will read alongside poet Kevin Latimer at 7 p.m. The reading will be preceded by a round of introductory readings by members of NWA's poetry community.

Both events are free and open to the public, though donations are encouraged. 

Hoahwah is Comanche/Southern Arapaho and received his M.F.A. in creative writing from the U of A. He has published two collections of his work: Ancestral Demon of a Grieving Bride (Univ. of New Mexico Press, 2021) and Velroy and the Madischie Mafia (West End Press, 2009). In 2013, Hoahwah was a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship.

Open Mouth Literary Center strives to improve accessibility of all its programming. This reading and workshop will take place virtually via Zoom with Zoom auto captions, and an ASL interpreter will be present. Access copies of poems and workshop materials will also be provided via Google Docs.
