The School of Art in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition featuring Trinity Kai: In-Between Spaces. 

In-Between Spaces will be on display April 1-9 at the Sculpture Gallery, located in the School of Art's Sculpture Building on South Hill Drive off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Fayetteville.

In-Between Spaces is a multi-media exhibition creating a space for viewers to contemplate their presence in a space that is a manifestation of the liminal experience between physical and psychological effects of hegemonic societal systems.

Kai's work analyzes the body as our perspective in the world and as a symbol of absence and presence within public and institutional spaces. She creates spaces within the work that reflect her experiences as a person with Albinism, who is classified as an other, and confronts to counter systems of discrimination and stereotypes that all individuals encounter in different ways.

"Trinity Kai's work over the past three years has grown to explore the embodiment of light and how perception and language relate to our lived experience as individuals," said Adam Hogan, assistant professor of art and head of experimental media arts in the sculpture-x area.

Kai utilizes materials such as fabric, handmade photographic printing processes and sculptural materials to create layers of language that express and reflect the dimensionality of experiences and spaces. Her work draws viewers into conversations that can be reflective and transformational.

"In-Between Spaces is the culmination of Trinity's creative exploration and growth throughout her three years in the Master of Fine Arts program," said Sam King, studio art program director. "We commend her on the exhibition, and we look forward to her future successes."

Kai will graduate in May with her Master of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in photography. She is an Arkansas native and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
