Rao Named Fellow in American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering

Raj Rao, professor and department head of biomedical engineering at the University of Arkansas, has been elected to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows.
AIMBE is a non-profit, honorific society of the most accomplished individuals in the fields of medical and biological engineering. AIMBE's mission is to advocate for biomedical engineering innovation through public policy initiatives. The group brings together academia, industry, government, and scientific societies into an influential community in medical and biological engineering. Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to a medical and biological engineer.
Rao joins a group of AIMBE members that includes Nobel laureates, Presidential Medal winners and members of the National Academies. His election to the College of Fellows is because of his significant contributions to stem cell engineering research, bioengineering leadership and education, and active community engagement.
Kim Needy, dean of the College of Engineering, praised Rao's achievement.
"Dr. Rao is committed to excellence in his research, service and teaching, and his election to this prestigious society reflects his record of success," she said. "I have no doubt he will represent the University of Arkansas well as he continues to push for transformational change in the field of biomedical engineering. He is a leader in his field and we are fortunate to call him our colleague."
Rao said he was grateful for the opportunity.
"I'm honored to be chosen to serve as an AIMBE Fellow and to be part of a community to advocate for advancing medical and biological engineering for the benefit of society.
Rao will be inducted into the organization March 26 with a virtual ceremony.
