Facilities Upgrade Will Cause Data Center Outage on Nov. 22
A planned power outage on Nov. 22 will cause multiple services on campus to be unavailable.
Facilities Management will continue the work to install a new generator in the Administrative Services Building (ADSB) building on Sunday, Nov. 22. The work will require a sustained power outage for the building and Data Center causing multiple services, including campus internet access, to be unavailable.
Starting at 3 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, IT Services will begin shutting down Data Center systems before the building loses power at 7 a.m. After power is brought back up at 3 p.m., systems will begin to be brought back online. Services are expected to be restored by 9 p.m. Some departmental applications could take longer to be fully restored.
This maintenance is being performed outside the building and could be impacted by weather. A weather status meeting will be held by Nov. 20 for a final decision. If weather delays the maintenance, Nov. 29 is the alternative date.
This is the second of three outages needed to complete the work. The final maintenance window is scheduled from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 29. Dec. 6 is the alternative date.
Throughout the outages, services relying on the ADSB Data Center are expected to be unavailable, including:
- Wired and wireless Internet access
- University websites, including news.uark.edu
- UAConnect
- VoIP phone service
- GlobalProtect VPN
- Some university websites
- High-Performance Computing Center
- BASIS
- Gizmo file storage

- University Libraries' main website
- Note: During the outage links to library databases, e-journals, e-books, and catalog will be available at https://uark.libguides.com/down.
Cloud services are expected to remain available. Workday, email, Listserv, Microsoft 365, and Blackboard Learn, Azure Single Sign-On are not affected by the power outage. Cloud systems that rely on campus Data Center systems could experience degraded service. Service impact updates will be posted on the IT Status Monitor page.
