GlobalProtect to Use Azure Authentication

Starting the morning of Sunday, Nov. 8, GlobalProtect, the virtual private network (VPN) service, will direct users through the Azure login system. Familiar services such as Office 365, Box and Blackboard are already using Azure to process logins.

This change is planned as part of an ongoing effort to migrate authentication services to the more secure and reliable Microsoft Azure AD system. Because the migration only impacts logins, users logged in during the migration will not be interrupted.

Faculty, staff and student employees are reminded that multi-factor authentication is enabled to provide increased protection of our data resources. After the change, when you connect to VPN through GlobalProtect, you may be prompted to verify your account using your authentication method. Multi-factor authentication is already enabled for faculty, staff and student employees when accessing services such as Workday, Office 365 and Box. The authentication steps for VPN will remain the same as other existing services.
