Stadium Drive to Close as Steam Line Replacement Begins

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A section of Stadium Drive, from the entrance to the Union Garage south to the intersection of Stadium and Meadow Streets, will be closed beginning on Monday, May 11, as work to replace a portion of the campus steam line begins.

The project is focused on replacing an existing section of the campus steam line that feeds Pomfret Hall. Installed in 1966, the current line has seen normal wear and tear and has reached the end of its equipment lifespan. The new piping system is an off-site pre-engineered system specifically designed for the University of Arkansas campus and is expected to have a longer lifespan than its 50-year-old predecessor.

The work, which will last the duration of this summer, is not expected to impact any buildings other than a brief period of time later this summer when Pomfret will be without steam for a number of days. Facilities Management personnel are working with University Housing to plan for and minimize this disruption.

After the steam line has been replaced, Stadium Drive will receive a final asphalt overlay and is tentatively scheduled to be reopened and complete by Aug. 1. Project updates and a map of the work can be found on the Facilities Management website.
