Leading With Excellence Awards Dinner Will Honor Black Excellence in NWA
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Black Cultural Action Committee of Compassion in Fayetteville is holding its inaugural Leading with Excellence awards dinner, honoring black excellence in Northwest Arkansas on Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Northwest Arkansas Convention Center.
The event will honor 26 individuals and organizations that are leaders throughout the Northwest Arkansas community. Angela Williams, assistant vice chancellor for career services and executive director of the Career Development Center and Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Arkansas, will also be honored.
The keynote speaker will be the illustrious Rev. Sharon Risher, who is the author of For Such a Time As This: Hope and Forgiveness After The Charleston Massacre, and is heavily involved in the "Everytown Survivor Network" and "Moms Demand Gun Sense in America" groups. She will be speaking on hope and forgiveness in response to the shootings at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C.
Other speakers include Nkiruka Azuka from KNWA, Noel Sosa of Perry Broadcasting KISS 105, who will serve as co-hosts.
The Black Cultural Action Committee of Compassion Fayetteville is holding this dinner to celebrate and promote the immense contributions and resilience of the black community throughout the Northwest Arkansas Region, the state of Arkansas and the nation.
This event will celebrate black citizens in Northwest Arkansas who are contributing to build a more cohesive, inclusive and equitable community; To further build on racial reconciliation and community cohesion by exposing Northwest Arkansas High School students to the opulent legacy, culture and contributions of African Americans by sponsoring a trip to the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Ala.
