U of A's Asian Studies Program Hosts Webcast of the 2019 China Town Hall, Nov. 18

The Asian Studies Program in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will broadcast the webcast of the 13th annual China Town Hall on Nov. 18 and host a discussion to follow. The free public event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in Old Main 201, Giffels Auditorium.

Each year, the China Town Hall provides Americans with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the opportunities and challenges in current U.S.-China relations. This year's event features a national webcast sponsored by the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, followed by a local town hall-style discussion.

George Stephanopoulos will moderate the webcast discussion, which will be shared at 80 venues across the U.S. and China. He will be joined by Stephen Orlins, president of the national committee; Yasheng Huang, professional at MIT Sloan School of Management; Melanie Hart, China policy director at the Center for American Progress; and Ely Ratner, executive vice president and director of studies at the Center for a New American Security.

To submit questions for the webcast before Tuesday, Nov. 12:

  • Use an electronic device to record a video of your question.
  • At the beginning of the recording, introduce yourself by stating your name as well as the name and city of the CTH venue you plan to attend on Nov. 18.
  • Videos should be no more than 30 seconds long. Landscape orientation is strongly preferred to portrait.
  • Upload your video to Twitter or Facebook no later than Tuesday, Nov. 12.
  • On Twitter: In Privacy & Safety, be sure to un-check "Protect your tweets" so we can see your video. In your tweet, use the hashtag #CTH19 and tag @NCUSCR.
  • On Facebook: Make sure that your post is set to "Public" (not "Friends"). In your post, use the hashtag #CTH19 and tag @National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. To ensure that we are properly tagged, we recommend that (rather than pasting) you start manually typing "@National Committee on U" until our name appears in the dropdown, at which point you can click to complete the tag.
  • Look out for your video during the November 18 webcast to see if your question has been selected!
