National First-Generation College Student Celebration on Nov. 8

New Student & Family Programs in the Division of Student Affairs, will host "I'm First" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in the Arkansas Union Connections Lounge. This event takes place in accordance with the third annual National First-Generation College Student Celebration, first launched by the Council for Opportunity in Education. "I'm First" seeks to recognize and celebrate students, faculty, and staff members who identify as first-generation at the University of Arkansas as well as highlight resources on campus that support first-generation students.

During the event, stickers for first-generation students, first-generation graduates, and others who support the first-generation population will be available. With these stickers, NSFP hopes to highlight the growing number of first-generation students, graduates, and supporters at the U of A and to show all first-generation students that they are celebrated in our campus community. The celebration will also include first-generation faculty/staff and students that will share insight about their collegiate experiences. Comments will begin at 12:00 pm followed by a group picture at 12:30 p.m. Other activities taking place during the celebration include a photo booth and a wall where members of the first-generation population can share why being a first-gen student is important to them. Refreshments will be provided. The entire campus community is invited to take part in the celebration.
