The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is hosting an informational class about CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Northwest Arkansas on Thursday, April 11.

The event, which will be from 2-4 p.m. at Drake Field in Fayetteville, is free and open to the public. Registration is preferred, but not required. Drop-ins are welcome.

The OLLI instructor is Maranta Jenkins, an Oklahoma native who now calls Northwest Arkansas home. She's a graduate of The University of Oklahoma with a master's degree in social work. Jenkins was previously at The University of Oklahoma and is currently teaching Introduction to Social Work at the U of A. She's passionate about working with children and families and believes every child should have a safe and loving home.

Jenkins will give an overview regarding the need for more child advocates within the foster care system. Participants will have a better understanding of CASA, the need for advocates and the growing number of children entering in out of home care within the state of Arkansas -- specifically Washington, Benton, Carroll and Madison Counties.
