Members of the campus community are invited to celebrate the retirement of John A. White Jr., chancellor emeritus and distinguished professor of industrial engineering.

A reception honoring White's many career achievements will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, in the Imhoff Lounge, room 4008 in Bell Engineering Center. No RSVP is required.

White returned to his alma mater in 1997 and served for 11 years as chancellor of the University of Arkansas. Under his leadership, the university underwent a significant transformation, including the $1 billion "Campaign for the 21st Century" capital campaign, which created the University of Arkansas Honors College, endowed the University of Arkansas Graduate School and UA Libraries, and added 132 endowed faculty chairs and professorships, and 1,738 scholarships and fellowships.

He has served in the Department of Industrial Engineering since he left the chancellor's office in 2008, where his teaching interests have included engineering economics, facilities planning and logistics.
