Theatre Closes Its Current Season With 'A Little Night Music'
The Department of Theatre in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will finish out its 2018-19 season with the Tony Award-winning musical A Little Night Music.
Written by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler, the musical comedy originally opened on Broadway back in 1973. It won six Tony Awards that year including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Forty-six years later, it continues to delight audiences with its hysterical story and charming songs. It has had numerous productions over the years, including London's West End and a Broadway revival in 2009. It was also adapted into a film starring Elizabeth Taylor.
This final production of the season is directed by instructor Kate L. Frank, and includes a cast of both M.F.A. candidates and undergraduate students. It also features scenic design by M.F.A. design candidate Kathleen Schmidt, costume design by M.F.A. design candidate Tanner McAlpin, lighting design by M.F.A. design candidate Catie Blencowe, and Tyler Micheel, the department's lighting and sound supervisor. Assistant professor Jason Burrow is the music director, and choreography is done by Gail Leftwich, dance instructor for the Department of Theatre.
